Details
The Paschal Vigil liturgy, observed on the night of Holy Saturday, is the principal celebration of Easter. By the late 2nd century, the observance lasted throughout the night and was closely associated with Baptisms, which are traditionally performed at this service. By the 4th century, the Paschal Candle, with its symbolism of light, became a part of the liturgy.
